Rooster Begins

This morning I have begun construction of my rooster.  I like to make the entire body first since most of him is dark (black actually).  Of course black is never just black.  I choose a fabric that actually is of pine needles and cones but when cut up It takes on a feather like quality.

I like to leave a little of the darker feather color peaking out just for contrast and depth.  This is all done on my teflon sheet.

Now I am off to my Mom's to help her out with a few things.  Hopefully I will get a little more finished today.

I really like those shades, will be interesting to see how it plays against the background colors.

For some reason I've never built my applique shapes on my Teflon sheet. I usually just build it right on the quilt. I guess there's more than one way to do it.
