Alpaca Shearing

Bob and I have a friend who raises some Alpacas.  He invited us to watch the shearing so we went early this morning.

This is done once a year.  They usually do it outside but it was foggy and about to rain so it was done in the barn.
The alpacas look like this when they are done.

Although it looks bad....they have to tie their front feet and back feet up and sort of stretch them out to keep them from getting hurt or from hurting the shearer.
Most of them just lay there but this brown one did not like it at all.  Poor girl.

They hold out their heads and ears while doing the neck and head.

When it is over Bob helped lead them back to their barn and fields.  That is him in the middle.

And off they go to eat in the pasture.

What fun to get to watch, did you get any samples?
At least they will feel cooler during the hot months.

I love alpacas...the little wiffling noises they make and their very cute faces. Never seen them shorn though and it looks like quite a pallava. Thanks for letting me eavesdrop!
