Black & White Background

I purchased some black and white fabric for my stash and when putting it away found others I thought would look so good with it and it started me thinking of my next quilt.  I cut strips and arranged them in
what I felt was a pleasing mix of dark, medium and light values.   Before sewing them together I decided to add one more medium value strip.

Once this was finished I turned it horizontally and cut it into irregular width strips.  Then I staggered these strips and sewed them back together.

This will be the background for my next piece.  I am happy with the values and texture and tension so far.  I will now layer it with the batting and backing and quilt it.  Only after I do that will I add some
new elements to it.

Intriguing how it went from vertical to horizontal plus the dynamics it gained.

Your process of building quilts by pre-quilting the background also intrigues me.

Looks good so far! Can't wait to see what happens next! it's fun how that added so much movement!

Looks good - so different. I like the movement in the second one.

It's amazing how staggering the strips created so much movement and energy. I'm curious about what you are going to quilt on the foreground. Will you hand or machine quilt it?

I just loved what happened to this idea! Lots of vertical and horizontal movement all at once.

PS-How are The Mulberry Girls coming along?
