No Music Here

Recently I added music to my blog. I thought it would make the site more interesting and also
while I am working on it I could enjoy it. Then I read someone's blog who mentioned that she is on dial up still and gets irritated at blogs that have music as it makes the site take so much longer to load. She got over 40 replies from people irritated at music on blogs.

Well....music being on my blog does not mean that much to me so.....it is gone. Hopefully all people will be able to access my blog faster and enjoy it while here.

I'm glad you made this choice. I know that people who put music on must do it for the same reason you were going to, but it's very annoying. My connection is fairly fast so that's not a problem, but the sudden eruption of music is startling to me and anyone else in the room. It's awkward to mute it on my computer.

Barbara, I understand the idea of sharing. We communicate about visual art and feel pleased if others agree with us. Why not share music? Well, there is a way: Just have the link on the blog which makes the connection voluntary. Sure I'd like to find out what my blogger friends listen to, and if I'm in the mood, I'll click it. And maybe get to know something new!

Thank you for not putting music on your blog that plays automatically. I am not always reading blogs in my living room -- sometimes I am in airports or at coffee shops, where a sudden blast of music is unwelcome. But I love music and am happy to hear what other people are listening to. I just feel very strongly that it should not automatically play when a page opens. Thanks for being sensitive to this!

Heavens! I just turned the volume down. I hope there were no hurt feelings over the music. It is such a pleasure to read and look at your blog that a slight delay in downloading it seemed OK.
Well...:)

I really liked your playlist, and will miss it, Barbara. I know it takes longer for the page to load, but everything is relative. People don't seem to have any patience with one another anymore. I have never stopped going to someone's blog just because they have music on it. And to me, it's your blog, you should be able to arrange it as you like. The load time is nothing compared to some of the web sites I visit. Even with the highest speed connection available to me, my computer still chokes on you tube and some other sites. Everything is relative. I very vividly remember life before the internet. The internet is just amazing. Having to slow down for a second for a page to open seems like a small price to pay for the technology. Truly.

I think it is better to be sensitive about it. Because some computers do slow down when loading. And in my case: I often surf while my husband is gone to sleep already. Or takes a nap on the sofa in the same room. Beena, you are right about progress and the price, but a walking group will get as far as the weekest member can. Means: If we form circles of communication, it is nice not to exclude anyone.

I guess it is more important to not disturb people with music suddenly beginning when the may be in a situation that is not suitable for music to start. I wish I could figure out how to put it here without it automatically starting up. I will look into that when I have more time, otherwise I will put a link to Playlist and let people choose to listen or not.

Thank you for all the input.

I agree with the majority. Usually there is some music going on in my head anyway and to be suddenly ambushed by another tune is a bit unnerving. You are so considerate to remove it.
My own blog has no bells and whistles mainly because I don't know how to add them but now I don't feel so lame about it!

Eva, I don't even have any music on my blog! But I can promise you that if I did, and someone posted somewhere that they wouldn't come to my blog because of it, I would certainly feel that I'd been excluded in a very direct way. Three of the bloggers I visit regularly (including this one) have changed their blogs after the comments. That doesn't seem right to me.

What's even more of a surprise to me, is knowing that the only way I'll ever get 40 comments left on my blog is if I offer a big cash prize, or something huge (laughing). Doesn't have anything to do with the lack of music on my blog.

But I have come up with a wonderful idea. I'm going to start a new blog. It won't have any music, or widgets. It won't have a header. In fact, it won't even have any posts. But at least it will load quickly (snickering!)

Thanks for putting up with me and my opinions here, Barbara!

Hugs!

Usually I mute the music on a blog I'm reading. However, you had music I liked. Through you I discovered Lizz Wright, my new favorite singer. Thank you. As for having music while you're blogging, do you know about Pandora radio? It's free, you choose the artists or type of music, and it plays while you're on other pages.
