Butterflies Are Free Binding

Spent part of the weekend finishing the quilting on "Butterflies are Free". Then yesterday I put on my first chenille yarn binding. I have mixed feelings, maybe because I am not used to this type of binding. Maybe I just used the wrong yarn? I need input. Does it add interest and texture or detract?

By the way...the allium flowers are embroidered on the edge and I used trapunto for some dimension and depth.

I love it I don't think it detracts at all, its a beautiful quilt

I don't think it detracts but it reinforces a point of view-it kind of brings out the natural textures of the plants, etc-sort of reinforces the "wild" nature of the scene. A regular binding would be fine too but would make the butterflies seem more formal and definite. Boy, I hope that makes sense. Either way, it is another home run for Barbara!

I forgot to add that the varied inner border works well with your fractured landscape-they go together in my mind.

Oh I LIKE the yarn binding. Looks like grass..and Hey, what butterfly would turn up its nose at nice green grass? I like the added texture...

The texture is good in my opinion. My vote is to keep it!

I'm honestly not sure. I like the wavy border very much; maybe the problem i(if there is one) is that there are two interesting borders, and maybe one would be enough.

I like it! As Libby Fife said: It adds something wild to the quilt which goes well with it. First I wasn't quite at ease with the colours which seemed a bit too sweet to me. The binding balanced it out.

Well, from all critiques it appears the ayes have it....and that is good with me as well. So the yarn binding stays put. (At least for now! haha.) Thank you all for your input and taking the time to express your take on this design.

It looks great, Barbara, love the texture and color combonations. I’ve been wanting to try something similar.
