Red Barn

"Red Barn" is my first attempt at doing a simple fractured background with all elements placed on top of it.

I wanted to do a more abstract, simple-lined scene, depicting a small farm near a river.
I added the cattails this morning and think I am finished. I will decide on quilting and then
totally finish this quilt. I do not think it needs a border but would like opinions on that if you care to give me suggestions. It measures approximately 16" by 26".

Wonderful! I knew it was a stream with woods behind it! I have thought about making a winter woods landscape using that fractured pieced background. Your piece is very inspiring.

You probably can guess that I would say a darker brown binding would be sufficient and frame it well. The piece has a great feel to it-like the houses are sort of isolated and out in the open all at once. The stream also helps to give the picture some perspective too. Great piece and well done, Barbara.

What a great idea! I'll put that on my list of things to try. Thanks for the inspiration!

Great work! Can't help but thinking the orange in the background is a fire...

Never thought about fire! It was meant to be a sunset!

Your style is so very appealing. The elements are straight forward but still complex. There's a spareness to the whole composition, but yet enough to complete the picture and even includes delightful details ... but sparingly.

As for an edging, would you consider couching yarn to it. I could see a thick fuzzy (chenille type), variegated one reflecting your fractured pieceing.
