Poppies At Sunset Finished

"Poppies At Sunset" made a lot of transformations as it progressed on my design wall.  Above you can see the change since you last saw it.  Something kept bothering me and one of my followers, Debbie, graciously mentioned that the confetti was what bothered her.  The more I looked at it the more I agreed so I took my fabric markers and colored each and everyone so they were more muted and blended into the background a little better.   This changed everything.  I still felt it needed some interest so I began to make birds.

First came the white throated sparrow.   He blended into the foliage quite well like he is supposed to.

Then came the red breasted nuthatch.  He does not really have a red breast, more a yellowy orange.
He hangs upside down from the stalk of one of my plants.

Last came the American Redstart, once again not really red but more yellow.  He is sometimes mistaken for a red winged blackbird but he has a white breast.  All these birds seemed at home in the scene so I fused them on and quilted them.

The quilt is 15 1/2" X 22" and is designed,  raw-edged fused appliqued and machine quilted by me.

What a difference that made, I do that myself with some of my pieces when they are too bright, but I use walnut ink since they are prim. I love at the addition of the birds, a hidden field of life.

First - I have to say, I love the way you composed this post. The photo on the left w/ the information on the right is really nice! Second - it turned out really beautiful! You made lots of improvements for the better.

Your improvements definitely are that! Although, I thought it was good before, this now has "more of you" ... what would be considered your style, your voice, your uniqueness.

I agree with all of you. Toning down the distant flowers made such a difference and I love the birds. It's beautiful, as is to be expected!
