Quilt Expo 2011

Well here I am in Madison at Quilt Expo next to "Gouldians".  It failed to win a ribbon but the winners in my category were very deserving.

So what is in the overstuffed bag you ask???

A new foot for my Bernina, thread, a chicken pin cushion pattern, a great book, a new ergonomic rotary cutter I can not wait to tryout and lots and lots of new fabric of which here is a small sampling.

It was a great day all in all.  My only comment is the show did have several quilts in it that were clearly inferior in all aspects.  I do not understand how they were allowed in and why.  The construction, technique and quilting were beginner standards and in one case below beginner standard.
I have not seen this in previous shows and was very disappointed to see it this year.  They had more quilts on display than ever before but as they say "Quality over Quantity".
In my humble opinion this brought the show down.
The objective should be to make it better each year, attracting the top quilters to enter.
I hope they get enough negative feedback to get back on track next year.

Your piece looks lovely against the black background. It's a favorite of mine whether it every gets a ribbon!

Looks like you needed that big bag!!

I am so proud of you, truly! Both you and your work look wonderful!

Great haul too and I have to wonder about those other pieces getting in that you mentioned. Makes you question what the thought process was in allowing such poor quality work in to a show. I have seen it in guild shows but this show looks a little different.

I'll echo Deb and Libby's sentiments, your piece looks wonderful against the black. And your haul from the vendors is not to sneeze at, either! Let us know how you like that ergonomic rotary cutter, I've never seen one like that.

Well I think it is wonderful, what do judges know;)
Did you get photos of the quilts, would love to see the good and bad. Sounds like you have some wonderful new fabrics and items to create with, look forward to seeing your next piece.

Barb, You are a winner in my book, and your quilt is fantastic. I know what you mean about quality. Once standards are lowered, there is no getting them back. We aren't talking snobbery here, we are talking about real skills of a trade and what it takes to do something very well. You do the quality job and it shows. Love and hugs and send prayers on Sept.22.

That's a wonderful picture of you and your quilt. Looks like you had a great trip.

Interesting about the poor quality quilts. That's not something I've noticed actually.

Would you have wanted your work to win an award in such a show?
