We went up to Oshkosh today to visit with our daughter Molly and her boyfriend Mark. They are the ones who raise coral.
Here is one tank where they are raising "frags". They put a tiny piece of coral that they trade or purchase from other coral people onto a small ceramic disc and it grows on it finally covering the entire thing.
I photographed looking down into the water which is full of currents to simulate the ocean and got
this shot. I love the abstract look of it.
When the coral is big enough it gets put in the main tank and becomes a beautiful under the sea world of color!
When we got back home I took my dogs for a walk since the sun was out and they had been alone most of the day. Still pretty grey out even in the woods. A sharp contrast to the coral scene above.

I had no idea there was such a thing as raising coral. The results are beautiful. Does it take a long time to grow?

The coral takes a year to become as big as some you see in the fish tank.
Some grow faster some slower. It is fascinating watching them feed them bugs and small shrimp. I just never knew anything about them before and this is a whole new world to learn about.
This is fascinating! Can you actually see the coral eating bugs? Are the shrimp the same ones sometimes called 'sea monkeys'? Brine shrimp, I think.
