By The Sea

No. 32 "By The Sea"
I am quilting "By The Sea" but have been interrupted by many unexpected events.
Christmas Day was wonderful despite the bad weather. We had rain all day turning to sleet and then snow Christmas evening. The next day Bob went down to check out store and shovel only to find that ice dams had formed up on the roof causing all the rain to back up and come down through the ceilings in one of the rooms of our antique shop. That caused a chandelier to come loose and fall hitting a 3 drawer chest placed under it.
The room all this is in has carpet and about 30 display cases full of antique items.
To make a long story as short as possible, my sons went down there and shoveled off as much on the roof as they could. A cleaning agent and of course our insurance agent were called.
We now have all the cases emptied, the carpet torn up, the antiques in there packed up, the basement room beneath it cleaned up and the ceiling torn out in both rooms.
Fans and dehumidifiers are going.
The rest of the store is fine and open but this area is closed.
Not what we needed but....it could have been way worse.

The Bird Bath

No. 31 "The Bird Bath"
This quilt took longer than most. I was interrupted a lot with outside commitments
as well as preparations for Christmas. I am not sure I am finished with it yet. Something just does not seem to be working. So I am setting it aside and will relook at it again later.
My mother is having her Christmas tomorrow and we
each bring something for dinner. Last year I had the turkey. This year I got off easy with the salad. I was happy to hear that I think they felt sorry for me. There are definitely perks to
taking on this commission and they come in all forms! haha.

Snow...the real thing!

I woke up this morning to this! We had 2 feet of wet heavy snow last night and it is supposed to keep snowing all day today!

I had to photograph through my windows since I could not get the doors open due to drifting in front of them. Bob went out and shoveled them free without dumping it all inside.
All the neighbors are out helping everyone especially those without snowblowers.
It always is sort of exciting and fun and makes you feel good about living in
this neighborhood of such nice people.

Swans & Snow

No. 30 "Awaiting The First Snow"
I have been working on my commission again. I did the Swan quilt first and have it completed now. Then I worked on the snow themed quilt yesterday and today. That one might have been influenced by an upcoming snow storm we are going to have on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
We got about 4 inches today too! Must have put me in the mood!
I will start quilting it tomorrow.
