I like to make small quilts for two reasons.  The first being that they will be great for gifts or in my Etsy Shoppe for someone who can not afford the larger pieces but still would like a fiber art piece.  The second reason is it spans the gap between quilts when you have nothing in mind to start yet.  I have though about a few ideas but am distracted with everyday life right now.  Summer likes to do that because it is the time you can find many fun things to do all around you.  So this....does not take a lot of thought....and makes you feel good all at the same time.

THE JOURNEY

I love making poppies and this journey was no exception.  I don't know why but the leaves the stems the flower the buds all are exciting to do.  Perhaps it is the movement of the whole thing...always looking like they are swaying in the wind.  Perhaps it is just the thoughts I had while working on it.  Whatever it is...I enjoy it all from the start to the finish.

Thank you to all who have taken this journey with me.  Hopefully I will start a new one soon and you will join me once again.

A POPPY AND TWO BUDS

By the end of the day yesterday, I had accomplished this.   Two buds with stems and leaves...most of it quilted.  Tomorrow I will work on the next poppy...there are two fully bloomed poppies still coming.   Feeling good about the mood and the feel of it.

A Day For Photography

 This is a tulip that got nipped off by a rabbit in my backyard so I put it in my kitchen window which faces west.  I took this photograph in the late afternoon sunlight which made it tranluscent.  How beautiful is this somewhat taken for granted flower when fully open.

 My magnolia tree now in full bloom.

A soft pink fuchsia given as a gift from my daughter Christy for Mothers Day/Birthday.  So delicate, I love it.

Sold - Field of Poppies

Sold this quilt yesterday.  I have had it a while but it finally found a home in Minnesota.
I still like this one a lot.....does not show as well in the photo as it does in reality.  Lots of details and some couched yarn as well.

Quilting and Adding

Work continues on my Fuchsia piece.  The larger flowers are all quilted down and the smaller ones hopefully looking behind the larger ones are finished and will be quilted next.   There is a lot more to do but I am happy with the progress so far.

We spent a weekend in Chicago to see all of our children.  Two of our girls live in Indianapolis so Chicago makes for a great midway point for us to get together.  It was great fun and here are some photos of us enjoying the Windy City.

Taking Camera Off Auto

Went out to the garden to try my hand with my new camera off of automatic.  Not so good but not the worst either.  Used a macro lens no tripod and it was breezy so  those are my excuses.  Fun though.  Need to reread on how to change shutter speed for breezy days.

Also got my bike....a TREK 21 speed made right here in Wisconsin.  Like that.
I am in love with it.   Took a ride this afternoon....learned a few things.  My legs are not in as good of shape as I thought. I do a lot of walking.....well obviously walking does not use the same muscles or not as much of them???  All I know is even when shifting down into the lower gears for uphill....I got off that bike and my legs were rubber.  Felt fine on the bike...not off.  So
tomorrow I will go again and this time remember that and make sure I do not go further then I should ....but it is fun and you can easily get from one side of town to the other very fast.

Obviously all of this technical stuff above took my out of the studio but it was worth it on this beautiful day.

Progress & Photography

Sorry for another gap in my posts.  My camera came and I had to start learning at least some basic steps to start using it.    However, I did make some progress on The Boat....added some pickerel weed...more lily pads ...still need more...just keep working it until I am happy with it.

Took my Mom with me to the Farmers Market in Elkhart Lake and took this shot of the corner coffee shop and Mill that houses some gift shops and a small grocery.

 This is "Blinky", my sisters horse.  He stays out at Mom's and just had to have his picture taken.

 A coleus bloom from one of my pots at home.  Liked the diagonal of the grasses with the vertical flower.

 Then a Hosta bloom in my back garden.

The Red Pump which has been out at Mom's since I was little.  Thos blackeyed Susans are beautiful right now.

 A Rose of Sharon in my garden....Love the color and that splash of red in the center.
