Furthest From The Shoreline

Well I just spent 3 hours at the machine quilting needles on these pine trees.   I need to get up and walk around and try to refocus my eyes!!!  However, all the furthest from the shoreline trees and shrubs are finished.  Now I will move into the edge of the shoreline and do the small shrubs, grasses and maybe even the pier.

I purposely left the lighter colored pine more open as I did not want to hide the house totally which it is in reality.  I am pretty satisfied with it so far and feel good that what comes next will enhance quite a bit.

Shoreline

Worked on the machine quilting most of the day.   All the leaves are quilted on from the birch trees.  Added another single birch and then the long needle pine and the trunk of another tree.  Then I began quilting on the long needles of the pine.  Lots of progress today.

Birch Trees

 Selected Fabric for the Birch trees.   Sometimes you just want something with specks in it and you can ignore the actual pattern that is on it especially when using long strips as in a trunk of a tree.

 So first trunk is on....used a colored pencil for some shading and black thread for details when quilting it on.

 Then there were two......

 And then three.........

 I begin adding the leaves.  This takes a lot of time and is a bit tedious.

Birches are in.

Background

I have begun the background with the construction of the lake house and one tree and a shrub.   This house is fairly hidden as you can see in my past post of the original photograph, so there will be a lot more added as I work my way to the shoreline.  Adding those needles to pines is very time consuming so you will need to be a bit patient on this piece before the excitement begins.

Lac Du Flambeau

 Each summer we rent a house on Bolton Lake located in "The North Woods" on the Native American Ojibwa  Reservation in Lac Du Flaumbeau (Torch Lake) Wisconsin.
I took this photo last year of a lake house owned by an elderly couple.  You do not see much of them but early in the morning or late in the evening they go out in their sailboat and peacefully and quietly tour around the lake after which they dock their boat and return to their home.   Even though the photo was over exposed I saved it to use one day.  Today is that day.  

So I have prepared the background and will start working on the foreground next.  I am excited about working on this piece as it will take me back there early....to the peacefulness of the setting where you can hear the loon calls at night.

Quilting and Windows

Here is a look at how far I got working on this most of the day.   The additional pieces have been fused and  quilted on.  with the exception of some of the smaller things which I may or may not finish up tonight.

Try not to be bothered by a few things like that rock wall  and the what these buildings are on.... there are foreground pieces coming up and they will be covering a lot of this.  I purposely end them because I do not want to add extra bulk where it is not necessary to do so.

It has been lots of fun so far on this project ......hope that continues on.   Stay with me....there is lots to come.

Background & Fog

The background is quilted and the furthest away parts are finished.  The fog is in.   Looks dreary and lonely right now but it is going to perk up a bit now.   The fog drove me crazy with the invisible thread not cooperating.  I was not very patient with it and got frustrated working with it but persevered.  It does a nice job of disappearing so it is worth the effort but still not my favorite to work with.
