"Reflection"
16"X 30"
Raw edged fused applique
Machine Quilted
This piece has a lot of symbolism for me. I chose a location that is familiar and placed myself there.
I have been reflecting about my daughter's upcoming wedding and her moving onto another
phase of her life. It made me think of my role of mother and how each of my five children are now
adults and living their own lives. I used birds to show them each in flight moving on.
I don't think I realized the importance of the job when I had my children.
I was lucky to be able to stay at home to raise them and I am proud to let them go.
I began with a drawing. I intended to show an aging face and hands that have done many jobs, but the piece was too small to properly show that detail.
I placed her on the piece.
"When am I going to show up in something?"

Barb - I like the 'reflection' and the standing in the water. Such a strong statement in this one. It's happy but sad in the same way.

I love the symbolism in the piece and how you portrayed a stage in your life.

I find this interesting on several layers.
I would not put myself into a quilt. I admire that you are confident enough to do so.
I love that you can so visually express what is in your heart.
I flat admire how well you do it!
It is a very tender quilt that every mother will connect to.
Nicely designed from the cool waters to the warm sky. The imagery is beautiful and certainly one to cherished.
The cat has a point.
I'm finding it difficult to put words to this piece. There is so much depth of meaning as well as complexity in the visual elements. It provokes an emotional rather than verbal response within me.
Very moving and poignant!
WATSON RULES..!!
I really like the concept of this piece a lot. As usual, you really nailed the reflective water. Really a beautiful piece.
Congratulations to your daughter too. Getting married is a big deal:)
A very sensitive piece, lovely. Five children...you are heroic.
