"Gouldians"
34" X 46"
Raw edged fused applique
Machine quilted
I have been working on this quilt for a few months and finished it a month ago. I did not want to post it because I planned on entering it in a few shows and first had to find out if they had restrictions on it being shown anywhere. Now that I have decided where I am entering it I learned there are no such restrictions with them. So here it is. I am pretty happy with this one and think it has show potential.
I enjoyed the entire process of working on this one. The colors were inspiring and the theme was just what I love doing. The construction of the birds took some time but I do like how they are captured here and have a bit of a personality to boot.
I chose to add more leaves and imitated the leaves found on the background fabric to somewhat hide them in the foliage. The light is speckled as it works its way through the trees.
The birds are there for the tasty berries but yet are curious about meeting up with each other.

Barb - nicely done! I love the movement created by the quilting of the background. Absolutely outstanding.
I think I like this one better than the geese in the cornfield.

This is one spectacular quilt! I'm so glad you are able to share it with us now.
I just love it, show or not;)
The colors and the background shows so much dimension and makes your eye wander through the piece. I for one love to see quilts like this at shows.

It definitely has show potential. I can see the crowds of people stopping in front of it now.
Beautiful and definitely a show stopper!!!
Wonderful finches - lovely work!
This is so amazing. I think this is your best quilt yet. I'm so proud!
Beautifully done, I love how the light is shining into the tree.
It's gorgeous!
Every thing about it is "just right" ... the filtered light, the number and placement of the leaves, the number and placement of the berries, and of course those wonderful birds.
Brava!
Your work is just outstanding! So wonderful--especially that it is birds!
You really made this subject matter special with those expressions on the birds' faces. They look a little sly, sort of like they are all appraising each other!
Good luck on the show entries. Let us know how it goes:)
I agree with Libby about the slyness of the birds' faces. That's a very nice touch. I love the placement of the branches and the berries too.
I am thoroughly enjoying the new works you are doing.
I have enjoyed seeing you develp as the artist you have become.
congratulations.
