The End of the Suspense

So....here is the total inspiration photo that got me thinking about these Gouldian Finches from Australia.
I love their colors and thought they would be fun to make and use in a quilt.

So I sketched them in different poses and outlined the color changes before tracing the shapes on fusible.

I made bird no. 1 and then started auditioning background fabric.   This was not good.

This one was better but still not what I wanted.
Not much difference here.

Now this I like!
Now to make more birds.

Did not quite get the blackheaded one finished this morning before it was time to go to work.
He will be closer then the other two so he is larger.  My plan is to add more details to the birds and some branches and some leaves will be placed in the background.  The birds are not fused on yet so their positions may change.  I want to do the quilting on the background first and then add the birds.

Wonderful! So true to life! These birds are individuals, each face is so different.

Those are gorgeous, love the colors.
I think your last choice is perfect, a bit of blending in, like they would in nature, but enough contrast for the birds to show. I found some nice ocean shades, batik, so i will try and come up with something to make with it.

It is as thought I am wearing 3D glasses looking at this piece of art- gorgeous! And, funny, I loved the one you chose without reading the narrative and until after. You are amazing!
